You know when something is really good and words
escape you when asked to describe it? That’s what happened to me after reading
this book! I know it sounds tired and cliché but I sat myself on an emotional
rollercoaster and enjoyed every moment of the ride. The storyline was fresh and
electrifying with all the right twists and turns in all the right places and
kick-ass, likeable, lovable and hate-able characters mixed in.
An amazing story told from the male POV of defeating
obstacles and conquering malevolence that threatens a perfect love affair
between two people that deserve to be together.
For me Merrick Drake was the kind of man happy with
a life he created as his own, no need for the pomp and pageantry of life. Not
allowing his past to rule his future, making the most of what he had and
enjoying what he loved the most, his bar and dirt bike career. Amelia Driscoll
flashes in and then out of his life in a matter of a whirlwind weekend romance,
stirring emotions in Merrick he never understood before. He counts the days
since her unexpected disappearance from his life and it tears him apart. My
heart went out to him as he struggles to grab onto something that should have
been so easy, a mystery he would give anything to uncover. His character is
refreshingly revealed as human, wavering at first on the feminine side, no Neanderthal/he-man/tough
guy/doesn’t give a shit attitude. Merrick is in pain, his need to find Amelia
unlike anything he has experienced with a woman before.
Once the mystery of her disappearance is discovered,
what seems like an impossible obstacle unravels a kind of love and dedication
that one lives for. Nothing can stand in his way he won’t allow it. Merrick
stands bold and strong with amazing friends at his side and battles impossible
demons to help Amelia and win what he wants most, her.
What I loved about this book most without giving too
much away, was the gangster underground. The wheeling and dealing and scheming,
friends all coming together to create a plan and a final take down. A perfect
plot twist in the story telling without too much detail, just enough to keep
you on the edge.
If you want a book full of angst, love, romance,
steamy sex, rock solid friendships and a bit of suspenseful mob dealings thrown
in, this is the book for you!
